Course overview:
This course will provide the basis for you to develop your skills and knowledge to design, deliver and implement high-value digital business innovations.

By the end of this course, you will have gained the knowledge and skills to be able to: 
  • Implement different forms of innovation project management & business models 
  • Develop an understanding of problem and opportunity analysis from a customer-centric perspective 
  • Comprehensively develop an Innovation Project Roadmap to support project success 

Your Expert Instructor... 

Tony is currently a Principal Capability Advisor with Capability2U and has held visiting Associate Professor roles with both the University of South Carolina and Arizona State University’s Center for Services Leadership. As a subject matter expert in strategy, innovation and service design, he has supported a range of Australian private and public sector organisations as well as US Fortune 500 companies in strategic innovation and service design. He has also held an academic role with QUT’s Graduate School of Business for the last decade as a corporate educator where he has led a range of advanced executive education programs supporting senior leaders in organisation transformation.

Tony now brings his expertise and experience to Capability2U as an instructor and professional coach in our Advanced Microcredential programs and is a lead expert in our emerging Service Design Capability Community delivered in conjunction with the Australian Information Industry Association.

Welcome and Introduction

Your welcome and introduction to get you started in this course, Digital Innovation. Your 'Primer' section will step you through some pre-reading and guides to help you identify the work-based project you are going to focus on in the course.

Topic 1: Digital Innovation Overview

Topic 1 explores key concepts of Innovation and deep-dives into understanding your readiness level, to help you and your team build an environment for innovation. 

Topic 2: Understanding Business Innovation

Topic 2 involves exploring frameworks that shape mindsets and capability sets. We also identify constraints and disruptions and focus on strategies to enable and support innovation. 

Topic 3: Understanding Your Customer

Here, you will explore your environment in more depth. We will guide you through a series of important tools and processes to understand your organisation, as well as customers and end users. 

Topic 4: Defining Innovation Success

Topic 4 will connect many of the concepts explored in the course this far. You will then evaluate your business or strategy, to evaluate a current strategy, to launch a new enterprise, or to explore and create an innovation or product. 

Topic 5: Value Delivery Sequence

This topic gives you an insight into the importance and many faces of value in IT-enabled innovation. Here, we provide an understanding of the attributes of services that customers and end users value.

Topic 6: Developing Solution Options and Enablement Considerations

Topic 6 introduces you to the concept of data security and privacy and encourages you to explore the role of data security and privacy when progressing IT-enabled projects. 

Topic 7: Customer Engagement Models

Topic 7 involves discovering the purpose of innovation in your context. We will introduce a model that shows three conceptual stages that link time and potential profit in terms of business strategy.

Topic 8:

In Topic 8, we share insights about the role of innovation and how it fits into businesses. Discover the importance of taking a strategic view of change and innovation. 

Your @Work Application and Conclusions

This final session allows you to wrap up your learning in the context of your work-based project, which you have been developing throughout the course. We will conclude with a summary of the key takeaways from the course.
